The Cville People Project, a documentary photography project, was partially inspired by the Humans of New York website, which is the result of the attempt of one photographer to provide a sort of photographic census of New York City.

However, the focus of this project is somewhat different. I believe that we come to know a city through the people who live there, so my goal is to depict the city of Charlottesville through its inhabitants. I intend to make portraits of as many Charlottesvillians as possible and share them, along with a little bit about each person, on this photoblog.

Feel free to contact me at cville.people@gmail.com if you would like to be part of the project or know someone who would.

You can see more of my photos on my other blog The Things I've Seen and on my Flickr stream. You can also follow me on Instagram (K_A_Sprouse) or Twitter (@K_A_Sprouse).

Anna, the Instagram pro
A little while back, I finally bought my first smartphone, and being a photographer, I had to install the Instagram app that very day. One of the local Instagram photographers that I stumbled across is Anna (@anna_virginia). She manages to take a lot of quite good photos with her smartphone, and I have enjoyed seeing her in my Instagram stream. It turns out that she saw a couple of my project project portraits and starting following me on my Tumblr. She sent me an email asking about the project, and we met up to talk about it; one of the risks involved in talking with me about the project is that you might end up participating in it, if you’re not careful, and Anna was kind enough to let me make a portrait of her.
For me, photographing photographers is a little more serious work than taking pictures of folks who don’t know anything about photography. I’m fairly satisfied with the portrait, though, and I hope that she is too.
